Rammer (jumping jack)

A rammer, also called a jumping jack, strikes the ground repeatedly with a small shoe. It works well on clay and other cohesive soils.

It is rented to compact backfill in a trench, around a pipe or catch basin, or along a foundation wall.

The narrow shoe fits into tight spots. Plan for a pickup or a trailer to move it.
