A direct-fired heater warms the air by passing it straight over the burner flame. It runs on propane or natural gas and heats up quickly.

It is rented for winter work: thawing ground, keeping a structure above freezing or heating a large building that is still open.

Combustion fumes stay in the heated air, so keep it to well-ventilated spaces. Plan the gas supply and a pickup or trailer for transport.
